im pretty sure ill be getting a STI soon after i sell my current ride. question is, (im turbo illiterate) do ALL bov's simply bolt-on? and which bov will be the best bang for my buck? also, where is a good recommended place to purchase one. i see that alot of peeps have the blitz ss bov or hks bov. how do they differ besides by brand name and looks? all feedback are welcomed.

A good BOV will help your engine live longer by preventing compressor surge, that's when the throttle body closes and pressur backs-up causing trouble to the turbo in that it slows it down and can cause damage to the fans. Things to look for in a BOV are the diameters of the venting, I like a dual stage personaly. Vent to atmosphere or recerculating is a personal call. DONT get one that is advertised as "loudest or coolest sounding" these usually don't perform as well. You don't really need to worry about a BOV untill you upgrade you turbo or increase boost, untill then the stock recirculating is preferable. I agree with Blue get something else first. Oh and no, BOVs are not all "bolt-on", model specific one's can be, but even then sometimes diffrent parts need to be changed to allow it to work optimaly.

well, ya, of course im going to get an intake and exhaust as well. problem is that cai will void my warranty. i know that i can just switch it out if i do need warranty work but its just the hassle of it. i heard a k&n filter wont void warranty. also, when i test drove a wrx, i noticed there was no sound of the turbo spooling up. would i need to change the stock airbox to get this sound? mahalo

You can hear the turbo it's just pretty quite due to an intake silencer
that subaru put on. You can mod it yourself if you wanted to, there are posts on here just do a search for silencer removal. As for the CAI, warranties are a tricky thing, legaly the only way they can refuse to cover a mechanical failure on the grounds that you modded the car, is if it is proven that that mod caused the problem. They don't like to fix it for free if they can get you to pay for it. A CAI won't cause any problems that I've heard of.

Don't waste your money on a BOV. If you want performace, buy a cold air intake or a exhaust.
A BOV in my opinion is a waste of money just for noise.

Actually, the STi has a BYPASS valve not a blow off valve. Aftermarket is basically a waste of money. I have also heard from some people that the intake is a waste without some kind of engine management (A/F, UTEC, ...). So, I would save your maoney and wait for everything to be released. The car is still too new and people are still experimenting, but it is your money.
Just my 2 cents.

I have the WorxTuning valve on mine (www.worxtuning.com)
I think this is the best valve

so are you saying that venting to the atmosphere is better than recirculating? or did u mean to say it didnt matter at all if you do VTA?

I have bot a BOV Tubro XS and an Ingen Cold Air intake it all makes more noise, but I feel a difference. there is not much to do yet on an STI, and waiting to see what comes up is what I am doing. My other car is a WRX w/ everthing, including ESX 500 2.5 motor. very fast and very stock looking.
Ingen does have a new modified cool are intake that is comming out next week at sema. A mod to air sensor map housing. verified HP gains on dyno to stock wrx.
