Availability of STi after it has been out 1 year?
I dont post here much (if at all) but i've been following the STi and these forums since before it was announced.
I plan on getting either one of the last 04 STi's or the first of the 05 shipment. I live in Anchorage, Alaska and was wondering if you think a deposit will be required to purchase the car a year after it has been out? Will the hype have died down? Dont really want it used even if some crazy person decides to sell it.

Well, I'm not so sure if it will ever calm down. Subaru is sticking by its guns and saying they will only make 5000 of these anually. That combined with the relativly low expected price (Compared to the average full size SUV and luxary cars) There may be waiting lists for a long time. Hard to say.

I don't see waiting lists for that long. SVT only makes 4000 or so Cobras a year, too and there are no lists. However, it's not "go to the dealer and pick out yours from one of 20" it's more like "go to a dealer that sells Cobras and see if you like the one that's on the lot, or maybe two of them on the lot", or you can order one and wait a couple months.
In other words, it will calm down but the STi cars will never be like the RS, WRX, or Outbacks in terms of numbers.

I agree with ObsidianRS. The demand of the WRX STi will calm down eventually, I predict it would die down rather quickly actually. The WRX STi is an expensive performance Japanese car that ONLY focus on performance, nothing else. So the only real buyer are real car enthusiast that are fairly well off. And there are not that many people like that around. Surely there won't be 5000 of those people.
See, for other cars, people buy them for all kind of reasons. Like Porsche, BMW, Benz........etc. People buy them for performance, comfort, image, so they have lots of buyer.
But the STi is only good for performance, so its target customer is very narrow.
