Oh sorry "Angry Dan" for missing that "FMIC" or (front mounted intercooler).. Next time I'll remember to wear my invisible ink reading glasses so I can see that in your topic. U ask a smiple question and you get a angry answer. I should have expected that..

the reason it's not FMIC is more because you don't want your intercooler near the ground in rally racing. Dirt, rocks and other nasty **** getting in there. Putting it up off the ground keeps it cleaner.
I wonder more why it isn't an option from Subaru.
Personally seeing a functional scoop on a car these days is kinda cool.

Another reason is due to the fact that the EJ-series, being a flat four with a lessened vertical footprint, leaves a lot more room above it in the engine compartment.
This creates a perfect spot for the intercooler directly above the intake port on the engine and only a short distance away from the turbo. Making it far more efficient then the long runs of intercooler pipeing required on a front mount intercooler.

Oh and I don't want to turn this thread in to a "which IC is better" thread. A STi "tuned" for I FMIC would be a monster. But right now my TMIC is working just fine!
