31 Grand! I can't believe it!
Wow. The official price is out and it turned out to be FAR better than I thought. But what does this mean for the people with deposits? Could dealers hold our deposits hostage for a higher priced ransom? In a sense we have lost some bargaining power. Either you take what is offered by dealer or leave it and lose your deposit. 31 grand is a great MSRP but still that means there is an estimated ADM (additional dealer Markup) of about 3 grand on that. Invoice lurks around 28 to 28.5 grand. But with a deposit, we could be held for a high priced ransom. Any comments?

sorry if this has already been posted, but anybody know if seemingly staple items, such as the wing, wheels, seats, etc. are included in this price??.. the evo crowd was a bit surprised to have to pay $500 for the wing, which is standard... remember, standard doesn not mean cheapest trim... cheapest trim on evo is 28,900, standard is like 29500. they could do something like not include a/c in the msrp while still calling it standard, albeit a $1000 option.. (just threw that out due to the no a/c rumor before) anybody have any input?

My dealer is MSRP for those on 'The List' with desposits ($500 & refundable for any reason).
As for 'Nickel & Dimes', Subie doesn't do folks like Mitsu does with the EVO. One price gets you wing, hood scoop, HID lamps (US), semi-auto A/C, seats & paint on the body!
The only DIO's are a radio (not a big deal as most folks go aftermarket anyway), floormats and mesh brake lines.
Oh, and the smiles and giggles after every ride are gratis!

That would seem to be a good time to buy upgraded fluid and have them install it while they're doing the brake lines. Does anyone else wonder if sometimes these places just take your premium fluids and toss them aside, install their usual stuff, and assume you'll never notice? I don't work on cars myself, and have had some really bad experiences with some shops in the past, so things like this always crop up in my mind. I have to admit I'd probably never know what brake fluid they really ended up putting in or if they did anything at all.

mark ups
Unless you have it in writing what you're actually paying (e.g. MSRP, invoice + $400 etc.) then the less reputable dealers may mark up the price once the clamour starts........this happened with some people who had been on Evo waiting lists for well over a year only to be screwed by massive mark-ups. Just be prepared to shop around, you may have to go out-of-state, but there are PLENTY of Subie dealerships selling for guaranteed MSRP.

I have worked with several dealerships over a 10 year span and I would strongly advise that like a dentist, attorney and doctor, find a good reputable mechanic (not just dealership) that has a good reputation (referral always works best!) and a solid moral standing. Further, its even better if he/she is a Subaru trained 'Master Tech' who is going to have years/decades of experience and working knowledge.
There are many bad dealerships out there with good techs.
As there are also many good techs working at bad dealerships.
Ask you fellow & local Subie owners who they visit and try to develop a 'relationship' with a specific tech for you and your baby (car).
In my case I have been seeing the same Subie tech for over 13 years who I used to work with at another marque. He has moved to two different Subie dealerships through the years and I go where he goes. Currently he works 30 minutes away from me and in another state but I dutifully see him every quarter for general maint. and work.
He does side work for me where I pay him cash/check for work done on site (60% less than the normal service rate!) and he does great work for me. And I don't have to deal with a service writer or wait in the 'Customer Lounge' for my car to be eventually done. I'm always with my car as he's working on it watching and chatting in his bay.
Just like any other service provider do your homework and try to find someone you like and respect. Then keep him/her in your pocket and you'll be a much happier camper in the long run.
Caveat Emptor!
