On the other hand, they can try going boring it out to 2.2l.

Well, on a turbo motor, if you bore it out, you lose cylinder wall strength, which is bad if you like keeping the internals inside the block on high boost. If you stroke it, you can't rev as high. Personally, I'd keep stock displacement, rebuild the block and put a turbo on there that'll put out a lot of cfm's.

I know the new STI in Europe still uses the 2.0 motor...but not sure about Japan. If NA is the only region using an all new 2.5 motor, i'd worry about the aftermarket engine supports.....
