2.0 vs. 2.5?

What are the advantages/disadvantages?

The 2.0 has history, but there's no replacement for displacement... so.....???

2.0 revs higher.@8000 rpm

the JDM 2.0 uses twin scroll turbine.

2.5 lot more torque thru out the rpm.. crazy.....

revs lower @ 7000 rpm

traditional turbo piping.

a twin scroll should be nice.. but might not be necessary.

Think this.... You can always swap in a better turbo; but, you cannot increase 2.0 liters to 2.5 liters! (Not considering engine swap)

So, it sounds like the 2.5 is better out of the box, but is there any documentation about how it responds to large power increases?

i just wonder about JDM aftermarket parts for a North AMerican only engine....

Sure you can! Bore out the engine. Sounds easy, but of course it isn't. I have heard of people boring out Skyline engines to 2.7l. The original engine as most of us know is 2.6l..

That's a definite bummer. I'm sure most of the bolt ons will work, or be easily adaptable. But when you get to actual engine mods, then it'll get a lot harder to find stuff!

I've heard the same thing, but that is only 0.1L! It'll be VERY difficult (if not impossible) to get a full 0.5 L out of it!

Well it all depends on how much of the chamber wall is left after the thing is bored out. If the Subaru engineering specs require a certain wall thickness around the cylinder to deter thermal distortion (chamber walls warping due to excessive heat), then no. Also, they'd have to use the 2.5l heads.

On the other hand, they can try going boring it out to 2.2l.

actually cobb has a 2.5 litre short block for the USDM WRX

i'm thinking about doing a EJ20T swap for my rs and if i do am planning on getting the 2.5 short block

Well, on a turbo motor, if you bore it out, you lose cylinder wall strength, which is bad if you like keeping the internals inside the block on high boost. If you stroke it, you can't rev as high. Personally, I'd keep stock displacement, rebuild the block and put a turbo on there that'll put out a lot of cfm's.

Does the new JDM STI still use the 2.0 motor? or they also replace it with the new 2.5 motor that is going to be in north america??
I know the new STI in Europe still uses the 2.0 motor...but not sure about Japan. If NA is the only region using an all new 2.5 motor, i'd worry about the aftermarket engine supports.....
