MY03 OBS

I am embarking on soundproofing my noisy OBS. Actually, I'm having a shop do it, but I'm gathering the materials. Looking for info/advice from you guys who have taken up the carpet in recent year WRX, OBS, RS, TS.

Just peeking halfway up the firewall (inside the car), it looks like there is a hard rubber or plastic tray under the carpet. Does it cover the entire floorpan to the front of the front seats? Is there anything under it or on top of it (besides the carpet) by way of insulation/sound deadener? Is the sound deadener (if it exists) worth keeping?

I'm planning on putting down a layer of Dynamat Extreme (yeah, I know there's way cheaper stuff but the shop is making some coin selling it to me, so I'm stuck with it). Then a layer of acoustic foam, then a layer of 1/2" carpet pad. Has anyone done something like this? Should this stuff go under the tray or on top of it or does the tray get tossed out?

Would appreciate any help as I will be buying the materials very soon.

ok...you only need one layer of exteme dyna mats...you don't need all those foams....if it don't block all the sound out..who cares....cuzz the subaru is goinn to be loud and noisy reguardless...so one layer of dyna mats will do the job

 

On the passengers side (02 WRX) there is a sort of Aluminium tray that covers up the ECU.

I wouldn't recomend trying to put anything under that... asside from that no clue what's under the carpet.
