There's alot of choice's you can go with. If your running Bandpass it sounds like you just want to be loud, bandpass is not the clearest sounding even with good subs. Check out
JL Audio
Rockford Fosgate
Kicker
Orion
Infinity
Polk
Kenwood
Alpine
And there are even more. Go over to the local stereo shop and see what they ahve and listen to them and you will get a better idea of what you want and what some prices are.

Sealed boxes give the best sound IMHO. Ported boxes give boomier bass but don't need as much power. Bandpass boxes tend to give the loosest boomiest bass but don't need much power.
Alot of it depends on the type of music you listen to though. I listen to alot of classic rock, so a sealed box is best while a ported box is a close second(alot of the recordings I have are lacking in the low end so a ported box helps accentuate those frequencies a bit better with a given power level)l. A bandpass box sounds like absolute garbage for the music I listen to though.

Definately a Kicker L7. I have a 12" in my trunk and it hits! I am getting a bandpass box for it also. They are awesome and can have as much or as little air space. If you can spend the extra bucks definately go with the L7!

Eclipse is another brand to look for. I've got two 12" aluminums in my trunk coming off a Rockford BD1000.1 amp. Couldn't ask for any cleaner or harder-hittin' bass!

What do you mean when you say "sounds like crap"? Muddy? Distorted? Muffled?

Also, Rockford's Punch line are the budget amps, but that's most likely not the problem.
