Stock stereo with aftermarket Amp???
I have a 2002 WRX Wagon with the "upgraded" stereo (i.e. the factory subwoofer, 6 CD changer, etc.)
I just sold my 2nd car and now have a spare Clarion APX400.4 Amplifier - which I believe can supports 2, 3, or 4 channels.
Can I add this amp to my existing system? I don't want to spend any money right now - so cannot upgrade the speakers, sub-woofer, etc.
Any help is appreciated.

yes you can. thats what i am doing for the time being. what you need is an in line converter so you can hook up the stock deck to the amp. The stock deck does not have line inputs so what you would need to do is feed off a speaker to the in line converter and connect the L R inputs to the outputs on the amp. I do not think that you can connect the amp to the upgraded subwoofer though. i connected mine to a kicker solo baric sub.

Thanks for the info.....
So I can probably go a couple of routes:
1) Replace the subwoofer with a better one and use the Clarion amp - though this costs $ - but may be easy since I am just using the outputs that are going into the upgraded amp. This will give me BASS response.
2) Putting the Amp in line with rest of the speakers which will give me higher power into the existing factory front and rear speakers. Better clarity and more bass from the existing speakers ???
SUggestions????

I don't know if you really want to try to use an amp with the stock head unit. I have a friend who tried to do that using the line level adapters, and he had a ton of engine noise in the speakers from distortion, so much so that he ended up buying a new deck to go with the speakers and amp. Those adapters will work, but they affect the quality pretty adversely. just my 2c.

I just read the manual for the AMP I have. It actually has built-in High Level Inputs for input from the speaker lines. They also are very strict about ensuring the ground is connected at the HU.
So I have nothing to lose in trying to hook this up - only need to invest time and wire!

I forget that the factory radio don't have a wire or power antenna cable so you need another way to turn on the amplifiers
when turn on the radio.See the attachment.,Four wires one wire to +12Vdc ,one to ground, other to speaker cable and the last the one that turn on the amplifiers;when you turn on the radio the current or voltage that flow from the speaker turn on this device.

You can find one at most car audio stores the name in the box is:
Remote Power Adapter
I only can see that this device is made by Directed Audio brand.
