Stock sound system "Power"

Have 03' WRX Sedan with standard 6 CD player. I'll hang with deck for warranty purposes, but would really like to upgrade speakers, as they sound as sh**** as described in reviews. My question: What is the power per channel of this stock system? I would like to replace stock speaks with "quality" speakers. Bass, is not a priority, just want clean, efficient sound!
Anyone know the power specs. Specifically, Watts per channel, as I want to be sure "quality" speakers are not damaged by too little power.
Any, and all feedback would be appreciated!

I'm glad you said any feedback because I don't have the specs.

Subaru advertised the factory system at 80 watts, but did not specify the output at a given distortion level or frequency. I'd assume that clean power is half of that, or 20 watts per channel.

I don't think you can damage quality speakers with too little power, but you might not be able to drive them loud enough with a clean signal.

The factory WRX CD system is not very good. I'm okay with it, but the sound quality is poor. Not sure if even upgraded speakers can fix it. It became really obvious to me when I rode in my friend's GMC Sierra (Duramax diesel). It has a Bose sound system and sounds nice.
