Rear View Mirror Rattle

I just put a system in my 04 STI and there is no rattling on the inside that is noticable, with the exception of the rear view mirror. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? Thank you

This seems to be fairly common. One thing you can do is take off the mirror and see if the metal spring clip that holds it in place is loose. If it is you can put some more tension on it by bending.
The mirror is a cam-lock type, to remove it turn it 90 degrees to the left and it comes off.

I've tried to fix this problem to no avail. There really isn't any way to take the mirror apart, so there's not much you can do besides the above mentioned spring. I ended up putting some rubber bands around mine really tight. It doesn't completely solve the problem, but it helps. If you find something better let us know...

only thing I can think of is trying to put a fatter piece of material on the back piece of the mirror. such as rattle padding. I really think the mirror is too limber to actually fix as is.

Let us know if you find something. Would like to know.

Cheers.

I fixed the rattle. What I did, is take off the mirror by turning it about 90 degrees. It then pops right off of the mount it sits in. Then unplugged it so that it was completely disconnected from the car. The part of the mirror which rattles is the casing and where the plastic meets the glass. To solve this problem I filled in the case of the mirror with a small layer of clear silicone, I also put a small layer in between the glass and plastic. I'm not sure how well this makes sense, but if anyone is seriously interested I will post up a few pictures, which might make it easier to understand. There is absolutely no rattle at all the mirror. I'm not sure if it will last forever, but it is working perfect now.

I'll post pics up either later tonight or tomorrow when I can get access to a camera. Well I have 2 10" Kicker L5's in my STI so for me to get rid of the rattle from the mirror makes a huge difference.

sorry to say, but I no longer have the car anymore. I never got a chance to take the pictures, but its fairly easy to do and only took me about 30-40 minutes. I'll take pictures if I do it again.

Is that spinning the mirror like a clock or turning the left side backwards towards the front windsheild?

other issue is that it's too loud.

look, we know all cool driving down the road and making sure everyone around us can hear what we are listening to...

but your hearing is is important too.

turn it down just a tad and your mirror wont rattle... plus you will thank yourself as you get older...

I keep my music low, and my rear view shakes, and if I have it up a bit more [maybe 22/40] the side views shake. I have a stock 160-watt sound system, and even as I pass by 16/40 it starts to shake. I may have to do the mirror thing to see if it works. it is annoying when you have to turn down your radio to literally a whisper when you have to look behind you [at least in mine].
