OEM front speakers in rear?
I have a 2003 WRX sedan. From some reading around, the OEM fronts are 5.25" and the rears are 4". One of my rear speakers isnt working anymore and my friend has a pair of OEM 5.25" speakers (from his suby) lying around. will i be able to just drop in the OEM 5.25 into the rear or will it require a custom spacer (ie., those offered by iaperformance)? i'm just looking to replace the broken speaker with whatever is lying around (free). figure i can do this over the weekend when im bored, but will need to know if it'll fit or not. if i have to buy a custom spacer just to fit the OEM front 5.25 into the 4" rear, then i guess i'll go on with life on 3 OEM speakers.
thanks in advance!

Where is Rosemead? I have a pair of OEM rears that you can have. The fronts might fit with slight modifications, but they are a midrange only, so no tweeter I believe.

The front speaker is a 6-6.5 inch but is very shallow. Most people simply trace the stock speaker outline onto a peice of 1/2" or 3/4" MDF or other material and cut out a speaker adapter that will bolt into the factory hole and give you enough clearance to mount a more robust driver. The rear is an odd 5" size that most people replace with a good 4" or not at all. I know many people with really good front speakers and some type of sub and no rear speakers at all. I prefer a strong front stage.
There have also been several vendors over the years that have made custom speaker reings as i discussed above if you don't want to make your own and generic round speaker rings can also be used but require drilling new holes into the doors sheet metal.
Cheers
