OEM in-dash changer with aftermarket headunit
Has anyone been successful installing a Subaru (or any other) OEM in-dash changer with an aftermarket headunit?
I’m planning to change my stock headunit and want to have an in-dash changer. I know that Subaru has a few model for the Lagacy and the Forester. I’m wondering if I can use any of them with an aftermarket headunit.

My wife is buying a Forrester XT this week. We test drove it this past weekend. It is NOT the same unit as the WRX (I have an '04 wagon--nice family, huh?). It does not have a cassette player and has weatherband. The look is different as well.
Some questions.
Are you going to install an aftermarket head unit and leave the stock in-dash in place? The best place is probable in an empty gauge pod at the top of the dash.
Do you want to control the changer with the new head unit? If so, you are most likely SOL. The OEM head units are desinged to be stand alone units.

Reviving the thread: Nakamichi sells a single-DIN head unit that is also a 6-disk changer. One unit is all you need!
