No RCA line output, just hi output from the speakers...

There are line level converter units that will take hi output and convert it to line level. I used a set years ago. The disadvantage is you are taking the distortion from the head unit and adding it to the distortion of the amp you use. Plus I'm guessing the converter will do something to the signal too. Here is what I mean:

Your best bet, to have good clean sound, is to change the head unit too I'm afraid.

How did you like the sound using the converter? Is it really distortion free like crutchfeild said it is?

I used Line level converter in my factory radio for my WRX and really there's not a notable distortion. Use a good quality RCA cables and as shorter as possible.If is from the dash to the trunk
12' are good.
