Here is my setup so far. Kenwood KDC-X869, Alpine SPS-130A in the rear doors, Alpine SPS-170A in the front. I want to get an amp and a 10' sub. I bought a custom made box for my 04 wrx. I just want to find a good sub and amp so I can finish my system. I just want a decent system...I am not looking to go too crazy. Anyone have any suggestions?
Hey another SD' dude
Well unfortunately you left your question very open ended and it really can't be answered all too well.
What kind of budget do you have?
What kind of sub are you thinking of running?
Do you want to amp the rear speakers as well?(I wouldn't)
I'd say get a 3 or 4 channel amp. on the decent low cost route, I would say a JBL P80.4 would get you going. It can power a middle range sub okay as well. But get a power hungry sub and you will possibly drive the amp into clipping. Not good for a speaker.
A little higher would be a xtant 603 amp. Killer amp, but also much more expensive.
Wanna go higher? How about Kickers 5 channel amps? I think MTX has one as well. But I prefer Kicker as I've had a couple MTX amps burn up on me.
One day you can come check out my system and we can talk car's stereo's whatever.

I don't want to spend too much. I dont want to spend any more than $400. I was planning to get the JL sub....just wasn't sure of which one. I wasn't planning to amp the rear speakers.
a jl sub is very nice, no matter what one you get, from a W0, all the way to a W7(the W7 goes about double your budget though). jl's take very little power for them to thump, which means you can spend less on an amp. once you have some more saved up, you can get a better amp and the jl can take the power too, they are very versital(sp.?)subs and work well in many different situations. rockford makes some nice amps, they are easy to find, and hold up remarkably well. they dont put out the cleanest power, but the jl's wont care. i think they are a good match for eachother.

Since you have the box and no sub, you need to pick a sub that works in the box you have. You will need to know the internal volume of it and then look for a sub that will work within that parameter. Most subs have a volume range +/- 10% and still be OK. Plan on spending at least $80-$120 for something of quality.
For an amplifier, you could go with a 4-channel and run the rears off the deck power. Find and amplifier that offers decent power when bridged such as a 4x45W-4x60W, that is stable into the subwoofer impedance (4 ohms probably makes the most sense here). Prices are all over the map for a decent 4-ch amp. Figure on spending at least $300 for something of quality.
The above would be more than decent and not too crazy.
Godd Luck!
