Need advice on install choices.
Hi all, I am a proud owner of a 2004 STI, Black / Silver. With no Radio from the factory and after a month of Turbo/Engine/Tires humming (Which i love the sound of) I figured it was time to install some aftermarket tunes.
Here is my proposed install:
CDA-7998 - Alpine CD Player. (XM radio hook up to follow at a later date)
SPX-F17T - Alpine 3-Way Component Speakers (Currently have these in my posession)
6 1/2" 80w RMS
5 1/4" 70w RMS
28mm 150w RMS
MRV-F340 - Alpine 4 Channel Amp (not ordered yet)
90w RMS Bridged x 2 for the 6 1/2"
MRV-T420 - Alpine 2 Channel Amp (not ordered yet)
75w RMS x 2 for the 5 1/4"
MRV-F540 - Alpine 4 Channel Amp (not ordered yet)
140w RMS Bridged x 2 for the 28mm
SWR-1021D - Alpine 10" Subwoofer (not ordered yet)
300w RMS - 1000w Peak
MRD-M500 - Alpine Mono Amp (not ordered yet)
400w x 1 for the 10" Subwoofer
Anyone with constructive info or tips, familiar with 2004 STI audio installs and or Alpine products, any comments are welcome. Is this system over kill or should it work properly. What do you guys think ?
Thanks for any information you all can provide.
Jason

I love my STI
It sounds like a good system. I've just never really been a fan of having an entire system provided by one manufacturer.......
unless you're sponsored
Alpine makes great headunits, processors, changers, and decent amps.....but maybe I'm not all for the "alpine sound" but speakers really depend on the person listening to them. So if they sound the best to you, go for it!!
How were you planning the mount the 3-way setup? Are you planning to build custom kickpanels? The 6.5" should fit in the door and you probably know you'll need a spacer (I have boston Z6s upfront).
What were you planning for the rear? 5.25" will fit with some work (I have boston pros which take A LOT of work) but you could definitely get away with some quality 4" units.
One thing the STI benefits greatly from is good sound dampening in the doors. They are tin cans and if you're willing to put out $500+ for compents I'm sure you care about sound quality. I'd really recommend using some inside the shell as well as replacing the plastic sheeting with dampening materials (I like cascade products). You should also consider something like Cascade's Deflex pads.
Where were planning to install most of the equipment? Under the seats are great. I fit everything there. I've got some pics if you'd like a better idea on seat space and door work, they are pretty big though.
Good luck with the system.
