Mounting items in trunk

I'm currently working on a fiberglass box and will probably build an amp rack in the near future too. However, i keep wondering -- how do i go about mounting things in my trunk (especially the amp rack? A few people have said "just screw it in", but that seems dangerous like i could hit drill into the gas tank or something (i know i'm probalby a worry wort about this). What's the recommended way to mount "stuff" in the trunk?

look under the car to see where your tank is and how much room you have between the tank and the bottom of the trunk. Find a good spot and drill, there is more than enough spots to drill into.

heavy duty velcro might work pretty good if you mounting one or two amps on a simple rack. if you want to make somthting a little nicer i would look in to building somthing out of MDF particle board. amp rack configurations can be very different so just get a design going and hook it up.

Here is an example how I attached mine. There are existing tabs on each vertical black bar. The screws pull the amp rack tight against the bar. Just look in the vicinity of where you want to mount your amp rack and see if there is anything existing you can attach to. I hate drilling holes in anything that gets exposed if you decide to remove equipment.

Yeah, when I did the fiberglass enclosure, the resin smell was strong.

Thanks...i'm a little confused on the velcro. You recommending me to get velcro? If so, what for?

The bad thing about mine, I started glassing a few weeks after I got my car. The resin smell removed the new car scent instantly! That is why I have a ton of 'new car scent'(best smelling evar) air fresheners all through the car! I'm about to glass another enclosure in the next couple weeks or so for my new JL Audio 12W6v2 sub.

The amprack is made out of thin plywood, so its not very heavy. The amps weigh a couple pounds per amp. The sub enclosure weighs just over 30 pounds and i'd say the sub weighs 20 pounds or so? I'm questimating about 80 pounds for everything.

Nice job .. Thats almost exactly what I am starting to do.

I have a question for you though. How did you get the carpet to mold to the outside of the box and the inside of the trunk?
