Help w/In-Dash LCD

could it be tapped into illumination? There are probably buttons on it that would come on when you turn on the parking/headlights.

safety wires

i think those are for your safety. if you connect them the right way, it should disable the screen for your flip out when you pull ur parking break or set it in park depending if your car is an auto or 5-spd.

Even with the screen open, it will just black out the screen.

Typically, with most video monitors, espically ones that mount in the dash, the green is supposed to be connected to the parking brake switch. This is for safety reasons so you can not watch TV while driving, the vehicle must be in park with this connected. If you want to watch while driving just don't connect the green wire.
Be care of local police and laws becuase it can be a hefty fine.
