help with static
I recently installed a new stereo system and am very pleased with the sound except for an audible static sound that seems more prominent in some songs than in others. I have run the interconnects along side the transmition tunnel, the speaker wire along passenger and driver sides of the car, and the power cable along the driver side of the car (next to the driver side speaker wire). The static is audible whether or not the motor is running and it doesn't seem to increase with engine rpm. Anybody have any ideas or experience with this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Micah
FYI, my system consists of the following
Alpine 7995 head unit
PPI pcx5800 5 ch amp
DEI 1.2 farad capacitor
6.5 kappa coax up front
4 kappa coax in rear
12" Image Dynamics Sub in 1.2 cubic foot box
Knu Konceptz interconnects (3 pair, front, rear, sub)
Knu Konceptz 4 gauge power and ground
Kun Konceptz speaker wire

hmmmm...it's hard to describe....you know how some recordings have an airy sound about them when the music is is soft..well, it kinda sounds like this except with a bit more substance that just air. I've hooked up my home speakers to the amp to make sure it wasn't just the kappas that were making the noise and the sound was audible in the home speakers as well...i've also taken certain cd's where the static noise was very prominent and played them on my home stereo to make sure it just isn't a bad recording and the noise wasn't apparent on the home stereo.

try taking a wire from your groung in the car and hooking it to the groung on the rca's. You may have an open ground in the head unit or amp or wires them self's. this should help narrow it down.
I'd also have to suggest checking your grounds. Also I'm not familiar with those interconnects and there quality....if you can find another set (borrow from someone) you might want to try them just to be sure its not that set of interconnects.
Have you checked if the static is coming from both the front and rear speakers? That definitely would help to pinpoint the problem. Is the static ALWAYS there....or does it get any better after the amp warms up? If it does get better you should have the amp checked. Over the last couple years I've heard some several shops that they've come across a number of amps that had soldering problems that were fixed. Something I thought would have gotten better.....but there has been a drop in quality from some of the "better" amp companies

The static is constant but seems to be more prominent in the front speakers. I've noticed that the the radio is especially staticy. I'm wondering if noise is being introduced through the antanea some how. I've regrounded the capacitor and amp so i'm pretty sure that is not the problem. I think i'll try hooking up some other rca's to see if they are the culprit. Unfortunately, my car is in the shop so i'll have to wait a bit to test this out. I'll let you know if this works. thanks

I have the same exact problem except it is my front left and my rear right speaker. Is this a common subaru thing or what cuz this sounds to me like the stupidest problem? outside of the rca cable and ground what else can be the problem? my amps work and when i replaced the speakers, they still managed to be staticy so i know these arent blown. any help would be greatly appreciated because having a sound system installed that doesnt play crisp music sucks. might as well listen to a regular hand held cd player connected through a tape kit for the car. thats what i can compare the sound quality to. help??
