Hello Nano!!! My custom Ipod Nano Dock

So I finally figured it out. I have had an Ipod for three years now and I have never been able to mount it some place convenient in my rex until I got my Nano.

I took the dock from my old ipod completely apart and removed the curcuitry from it. I then removed the parking light switch and with a dremel tool fit the included nano dock adapter into the hole. I used a little bit of GOOP and glued the dock where it needed to be. Wired it to my head unit with an RCA adapter and provided power using a cig adapter.

pretty interesting, does the face of the nano cause any glare issues with reflections?

I recently went through a dilema with mounting my mini....ended up velcroing the Apple belt clip that came with it to the bezel trim that surrounds the stereo and a/c controls. Ran the FM tranmitter cable underneath the center console and up through along the side.

Not in the best place to see the display, so may move to the passenger side of the radio...then it's almost impossible to read the screen

Like where you put yours, but I have an EGT and boost guage in the way.

How did you run power and how is it playing on your stereo?

There is just a glare from the flash.

It is very easy to use by reaching through the wheel. I dont need to change the song very often-- I make smart playlist from my collection of 40GB and just play on random. Its cool to see the song title and the album art.

I wired the iPod to my headunit just using an RCA jack adapter. As for the power I wired an auxilery "female" ciggy adapter behind the dash that I plug a power supply into.

Never mind....seems my stereo doesn't have aux input capability. When I plug in the RCA's the ipod plays real quiet over the back speakers only.

Not the most stereo knowledgeable person, but when I switch the source button (between radio and CD) for this to work I'd need an AUX mode right?

Nice job. What about vibration or bumps, has the Nano fallen out at all?

you should just get the adapter to control the ipod through your deck and wire the plug through where you have it now. That would probably run you a couple hundred, but hey, it'd be handy

I just got the aforementioned unit from pioneer, maybe your head unit company makes somthing similar. It allows full iPod control through the deck. The unit cost me $120 at Best Buy. pretty slick, no album art though, since the iPod stays in the glovebox.

I did some research before the install and since my deck is a few years old the kenwood i-pod links dosn't work with it.

Anyway I have full control of it and it didnt cost me a dime!!!! Well I had all the wiring for the past three years when I had my first Ipod-- but that was too long ago to remember.

I like it. If only there were a way to mount some kind of wireless remote so you can change songs w/o hassle.
