Glovebox fitment for PS2

Anybody know if the new (thin) PS2 will fit in the glovebox fit in a 04-05 WRX? Or does anybody know the dimensions of the glovebox? Any experience with this is appreciated.

Talking fitment

It actually looks like it would fit perfectly! I have a '04 2.5RS, but I'm sure the glove box is the same size. The ps2 is about 9" wide x 6.5" long x 1" deep. My glove box, when opened, shows that there is about 1.5" deep to 2" deep area at the top of the glove box that is not affected by the opening and closing of the glovebox, leaving a perfect spot for some kind of mounting mechanism at the top of the glove box space. The dimensions at the top of the glove box are something like 12" wide x 8" long, which gives you plenty of width, but the length needed might be missing (considering that I only measured the ps2, and not the memory card or controller input. It almost looks like you would need more length in mounting this thing because of all of the wires coming out of it. The way I see it, you could just drill holes at the back of the glove box, and route ps2's wires through those holes, leaving a very discreet spot for the mobile ps2, but if that space at the top of the glove box is not long enough, this install spot may require cutting a big ps2 sized hole at the back of the glove box to accomodate the..................I forgot..................The way that the ps2 opens to put a game into it is that it flips up, meaning that you would need space above the ps2 (approx 4"), this is a problem................Hanging it down lower means that the glove box hits it, meaning you might have to cut out a big chunk of the glove box at the back. This might not be too big of a deal if you plan on this being a permanent thing, or getting a new glove box. I was picturing this space to be for the controllers though, it would have been perfect. Now I'm not sure how this would work. A few questions though. What would be the easiest way to mount it? How do you get power to it (being that it has a normal home receptacle plug)? Is there some sort of conversion that can be used? How does this work? There is much more to think about on this ps2 install than I expected. Do you have any in-dash monitor, and dvd changer experience? This is my current project for the RS. I have a few install questions (parking brake wire, need for fm modulator with RCA jacks for the DVD changer, etc). I think this ps2 glove-box install idea is good, and possible, maybe with our combined efforts we will both have very cool systems! Let me know what you think about the ps2 install ideas, etc.

Well I know the power problem will be fixed by a power inverter. You can pick one up at Radio Shack or Wal-mart for $30. I'll have to check on the other stuff. I'll let you know what I find. Thanks for your input.

fitment for ps2

I talked to a friend about this issue, and he said that it probably wouldn't make a difference just to mount it to the bottom of the glove box. Since the games pop into place in the ps2, I think you can position it in any way. Don't take my word for this though, the best thing to do is probably call sony and ask them if the ps2 can operate in any position. If you do this I am very interested in what they say.

I put my slim ps2 into my glove box of my 03wrx and it had alot of room i had it sitting on my owners manual case and the clearance was perfect. I closed the glove box and it was fine.. If your doing a ps2 install like me then goto Bestbuy and get a power inverter a 400watt and put in under the passager seat and run the wires under the carpet into the glove box.. I bought the mattjk screen to play my ps2 on.. I will get pics once i complete my install.

NOTE: You dont need a 400watt inverter i bought one because i charge my video camera in my car also you only need about 250 watts and even then its alot.

this new style one might pose problems since the disc clamp is only on the bottom.

the old style, IIRC clamps top and bottom...
