difference between regular sub Vs Bandpass
I'm looking for a enclosed subwoofer for my WRX and as I can see i found 2 kind of enclosed sub. the regular subwoofer......
and the bandpass sub.
there are a lot of sub.speakers.......
I want to use the sub. in the trunk but what is the real difference between these two enclosed subwoofer?

from my experience, sealed subwoofer enclosures give you tighter bass and require a little less power to run. band bass boxes can give you deeper bass but they will not be as clean as a sealed box. also, band pass boxes usually require more room and are heavier.
When you go to buy your sub it will have response curves that will show you the characteristics depending on what box it's in. Band passes will be the loudest but only at certain frequencies. Search.
They both serve a purpose, the bandpass generally is used for slower and deeper hitting bass like rap, r&b, etc. and the sealed response better to faster hitting music like rock and metal. Personally its more a preference but i like sealed and am against bandpass.

banpass is for straight competition, the bass will sound horrid, but will hit hard, regular open style boxes give you a better sound quality at 4 ohms while a banpass pressurizes the bass for as long as it can hold it before forcing it out of the ports. i mecp cert. and reccommend open for a regular system and banpass for competition.

I have tried many different boxes.
Bandpass is the best for hatchbacks/suvs/wagons
Sealed is good for trunks if you want tight bass and not TOO loud.
Ported is good for competition in trunks.
These are all my opinions, for you, I would suggest a sealed box, it gives nice tight and clean bass.

Bandpass boxes are bad because you cannot hear the distortion. You can build a ported box and get all the sound and boomyness you want by tuning it to the cars resonant freq. You can also tune a sealed box to the interior of a car by adjusting the size of the enclosure. I have built tons of boxes for everyday systems. Most of them are sealed. I have also build a couple for competition. When the car was a sound quality competitor I went with seald, but if it were an spl application I went sealed. You can get all the sound you want from any of the various types of boxes...provied they are built by someone who knows their stuff. Oh by the way just for a little background info on me...

Well first off I assumed it was a 4 ohm sub because you did not give the impedence. Anyway, For a sealed box the optimum is a 4.93 cubic foot enclosure. That is way to big and the freq response is horrible. I would reccomend a 3 cubic foot box ported with a port that is 3"x5" 12.25" deep. That box will give you a nice bump of +6 db at about 44 hz and has a nice roll off. What kind of sub is it because if the efficiency is only 85 db it will require a bit more power to push it. Also its VAS is only 2.65. That seems kinda small for the volume accustical suspension of the driver...or in a simpler term the size enclosure it would take for the woofer to think it is in a "free air" application. I am gonna gues that this sub might be a Kicker solobaric??
