I had the rear seats out of my wagon and there's not much space at all. Less than 2 inches at most.

biggest question is, WHERE will you put it.

remember, unless you will be using an infinite baffle woofer design, the woofer will need to be in an enclosure.

it's just physics.

so, give that most 10" subwoofers need about .5 to 1 cubic ft of airspace, your choices are very small.

now, the reason that OEM subwoofer is under the seat is that it is a 6.5" design. so the smaller the driver size, the smaller the enclosure size.

now i'm not saying that is it IMPOSSBILE.

remember the old contractor's triangle:

fast, cheap or good... pick 2 of the 3...

fast and cheap <> good
fast and good <> cheap
good and cheap <> fast...

also, google "APERIODIC enclosure designs"...

It is possible for sure to have sub(s) in the trunk and pointed through the rear console opening therefore reducing trunk rattle. I am about to make a fiberglass enclosure based on this idea that is integrated into the rear deck with one sub "hanging" down pointed in through the console opening. Anyway I hope you can picture this idea cause I know I did a bad job explaining lol. It would be easy to create a box that has 1 to 2 subs that sits on the floor and points through the console opening but I have a nitrous tank on the console so no room for that idea. Anyway g/l and peace.

There is not much room inside the passenger compartment for a woofer.
Consider the front passenger foot well area. Or consider using one or two 8” woofers under the front seats.

There is not enough room under the seats for a 10” or 12” woofer and enclosure. Plus it would be really small = reduced output.
Also there is no guaranty that installing the woofer in the vehicle will reduce rattling. Most likely you will have other things rattle instead of the trunk lid and tail lights, like dome light, mirrors, door panels, etc…

Also you do not have to Dynamat the entire trunk – really all you need is just a few pieces in the right places to stop the rattles.

Felt padding or thin foam padding can keep trim panels from rattling and this is much cheaper then Dynamat. Just get the self sticking kind.

yeah i went to a auido shop few days ago, they recomend this small box that fits a 10" sub that can rest on the floor in the back passenger side, the down side to this isthat the passenger in the back would have to rest his/her feet on the sub, i dont really mind it though, if i plan to actually put it in my car, will it really rattle more then if i put it in my trunk?

Rick at RAAMat is working on a 10" setup to go under the front passenger seat. He should know more next week, I think he's measuring things up this weekend.

I put an 8" sub in box under the drivers seat and my amp and cross overs under the passenger seat. It is not huge bass but it sounds good. People in the back can sit fine, but foot space under the seats is compromised.

You could put your amps in the trunk in an 8" under each seat for more bass and vibra-massage!
