center console HU standard hole size
i measured the HU opening on my05 and it measures 7" wide. I was wondering if anyone has installed a HU that measured 7 1/4" -1/2" without major or any modifications to the center console?? Im interested in getting this HU i found on the web but it measure 7 1/4" wide.
thanks

you're gonna have to hack the center console.
they are DIN specific. my 10+ y/o sony head unit without the trimming fits in there perfect.
i remember back in the early 90s, where removable headunits were the in-thing.
but my then sony had a larger than DIN shape with the removable handle, so the installer had to notch the center console opening by like 1/4" on each side.

with out looking at what you have, you can usally screw it right to the factory mounting holes on the unit(the sides), and use the plastic mount you get with a mounting kit, u do not have to use that cage that comes around the head unit, the thing that holds on the trim piece, that you bend up thos triangle shaped peices to hole it in. mine was an alpine so you could go from there, i never measured it but it was without a doubt the easiest one i ever put in, both my rs 02 and wrx 06, kinda just swapped them in and out.
oem head unit is like 7"1/16 to an 1/8" real closse.

any standard double din stereo will fit without the trimring.
its just iso mounted meaning mounts using factory bracket.
simular to toyota, pretty much the same thing actually.
if there are spaces inbetween, use the smooth side of velcro its all good
