Which amp for a JL Audio 12w7
Which amp for a JL Audio 12w7
I am thinking about getting a JL Audio 12w7 in a Prowedge Box. What would be the best amplifier to run this on? Does anyone know if $640 is a good price for a 12w7 in a Prowedge Box?
WWWWHHHHATTTT???????
a JL500/1 to power a 12W7
ya i'd use that you want your W7 to go power hungry!!!
for a 10W7 that amp would be fine, but for a 12W7 it really wants to see the JL1000/1
why get a $750 sub and get mininum performance?? go for the 1000/1 dude!!! if you don't have enough money, i'd recommend saving up.... actually pm me if you looking for one too, i might be able to find you a deal.
as far as 8W7...depending how many your running:
1-8W7-----> JL250/1
2-8W7----->JL500/1
4-8W7----->JL1000/1
i HAD 4 in my old car (an RSX typeS) and that shiet was bumpin!!!!!
anyhu, hope this help!!!

Just get 1 10w7 with a 500/1 JL amp. Don't get ANY OTHER type of amp but JL, they're designed to go to together. You will not be let down. You should be able to get a 10w7 and prowedge for $450 (if you're lucky) - $650 Use barganing skills.

will the 250/1 be fine for power usage?
I want to install an 8w7 and 250/1 amp. Later on, I will upgrade the door speakers. I will be amplifying these speakers also to better accomodate the sub. Any suggestions? With three amps, will my car's charging system be able to create enough power for them? Will JL components for the front doors, a nice JL coaxial for the rear door, and two amps to accomodate each be a good combo with the 8w7?
As you can probably tell by my sub and amp selection, I am not trying to make it too loud, I just want nice clean bass, and to not rattle the trunk. Will it be worth it to Dynamat the trunk and get some sort of license plate holder that won't make the license plate rattle? Will I need something like this with the 250W setup I have chosen?
I have a DVD changer in the trunk. Will this bass make the changer skip?
Anyone know where I can get an 8w7 in a ProWedge box for a good deal?

Check out the JL 500/5. A single amp will run your whole system. It is a 250/1 to bass and 100 X 2 to the front and 25 X 2 to the rear. I sell tons of these and they rock. Get the optional bass control and rock on.......

how would I set this up?
On my HU, it has 3 amp outputs (front, rear, and subwoofer). I would like to take full advantage of what I have installed already. If I install this 500/1, which output do I hook it up to? My head unit has a separate control for subwoofer that I would like to take advantage of and am not sure that this would work with the aforementioned setup with just the one amp. Does the amp have 3 RCA inputs? Also, with just 25x2 at the rear, and 100x2 up front, wouldn't this end up in bad sound balance throughout the vehicle, or is 25x2 all the power that I would really want to send to the rear coaxials that I plan to get. As I mentioned before, I want to use the full potential of my new HU, and am not sure that this setup would do that. I am doing this project in phases also, which is why I think that it would be best to, in the first phase, install the 250/1 and 8w7 in ProWedge. With my HU, I can control the sub (to set it lower to accomodate the factory speakers) and when I get new components and coaxials I can control the sub to accomodate these, all with the HU. Let me know what you think. I appreciate the recommendations and input.
The amp is the JL 500/5 not a 500/1. This is very important because they are very different amps. But yes, it has seperate inputs for all three sets of channels. This amp rocks and the 25X2 rear channels are plenty for rear FILL. As for doing it in stages, the 500/5 will be about double the 250/1 but you will save money in the long run by only paying/doing one install and needing only one amp kit. Also, to use 2 JL amps you would use a 300/4 and a 250/1 and together they will cost you more then the 500/5. Acoustically they will sound the same.

WOW!!! I'm sold
This amp sounds very cool and very worth it. Let me know what kind of deal you can get on it. I'll shop around the internet and read more about it. Can you recommend good coaxials and components for my car with this setup? As you probably know, I am looking to go all JL Audio (unless you think something would be better for this setup, I just figure that with the JL amp, and the JL sub, that I should just go all JL). Also, I just want a nice mid-range system with clean bass and good all around sound. I figure with just 250 watts to the sub and a matching 250 watts to coax and component, as you were saying, would probably be a perfect match. Thank you for your input.

If you're gonna do it right, get 2 amps. One to power the separates and one for the sub. Also make sure to get a good wiring kit.
A JL 1000/1 for the 12w7 would be ideal. I've heard it and damn it bumps haha. I'm actually switching to this setup. I'm gonna use 0 gauge 2 wire it and add a yellow top. It's gonna be sick.

first of all JL amps are NOT made for JL subs.....forget whoever said that just make sure the ohm load matches for your sub and amp for maximum power. The JL amps are nice, but you pay a LOT for them. In fact, same with the W7's very overpriced in my opinion. Check out amps from directed and crossfire (vr or bmf series). You wouldn't be able to tell the difference probly anyway and they have just as much if not more power. Also, if you don't wanna spend a fortune look at subs from Adire Audio (brahma), Resonant Engineering (XXX), Elemental Designs and Ascendant Audio(avalanche). They all make subs just as good with less price cause they are smaller brands. In fact some are better. I would take a XXX or brahma over a W7 anyday. Hell, i DID, i have a brahma in my saab 9-2x and a crossfire bmf1000d. Just so you think i'm not a crackhead cause i'm new, I've been on car audio forums for about 5 years now so i know what i'm talking about, these subs get world records and same with the amps. Don't fixate on JL unless you have a reason or extra money. Just my 2 cents. good luck though, you have a great setup in mind.
