Alpine 7894 install in 06 Impreza 2.5i question

I'm a newbie trying to install an Alpine 7894 into my 06 Impreza 2.5i. I read in my manual of the 7894, that I need to connect the Yellow battery lead on the new unit to the positive post of the battery.. Does this apply to all models of cars? What would happen if I didn't do this?

I want to go buy a install kit, remove the stock radio, and just install the new one.
I did install the Alpine in my old 92 Toyota Camry without having to wire the constant power... It worked fine... so I am a bit confused.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Oh also.. I was also wondering why I couldn't connect the yellow battery lead to the lead from behind the dash, since the Alpine HU already has a 20A inline fuse connected ..?

I thought that this would be enough to protect it, and that I may use the regular yellow battery lead from behind the dash instead of directly connecting it to the battery.

The 7894 is a V-Drive unit and requires a direct battery connection due to the amount of current the amplifier draws. I have this unit in my car and I did connect it to the battery. I suggest you do the same rather than cut corners. This is not about protection, but about having enough power available to run the amp correctly.
Also, when you run the wire to the battery you must add an additional inline fuse as close to the battery as possible, this is to protect that wire from any shorts that occur between the battery and the HU (before the HU fuse).

Well it's been two weeks so hopefully he has it installed (properly) by now.
