stock sizing is
5.25" front
4" rear

however, you can have up to 6.5" front, 5.25" rear depending on speaker depth.

i have mbquart premium components in those sizes in my sti without the usage of spacers.

I just went to Best Buy and Circuit City and asked them the question before I got any replies and both of them said that it takes 6.5 in front and rear. Sheesh well you guys have the car too so I guess I'm now looking for 5 1/4 and 4.

Thanks!!

Circuit City is wrong, there is no way to fit 6-1/2's in the rear doors. They can go in the front but you'll need spacers, and not all 6-1/2's will fit because of clearance issues. The window is behind the speaker when it's down, and the grille is an issue in front.

Wo

I just got my car and haven't inspected every inch but I didn't even know there were speaker holes on the back doors. I've seen the holes for them in the trunk under rear window. Hmmmm.

I'll check in the daylight tomorrow.

There are holes in the rear deck but you would have to run speaker wires back there.

I'm interested in aftermarket speakers too. Which ones did you pick? Let me know if there are any issues with depth clearance (darn shallow doors). Looking forward to your results.

I got polk db650 and db400 decent speakers if your on a budget. The 650's sound great, but the 400's being 4" speakers sound like 4" speakers. I have a rattle in the front drivers door, but can't blame the speaker for that. Overall great sound. I had prof. install so I dont know if they had any trouble installing, but both were under 2" deep.

Are there an components in the market that will allow the tweeter to be installed in the stock location?

you can use the stock wiring, bur leave some wire on the factory harness if you want to splice it bak, second in the front doors with components, make your splice from factory to aftermarket at the tweeter connection, it makes you life a whole lot easier. i have infinity from best buy, they work great, make sure you use a 4 channel amp, with a built in cross over, eveything goes together real easy this way, but still you the componenet cross over also. and do not be cheap either use dynamat, you will like the results. also these speakers worked well with 1/2 inch spacers from best buy.
