2008 Subaru Cruise

- Description -
Last year's cruise was such a huge success, with nearly 30 vehicles attending, we figured we would do it again. New Mexico Subaru Enthusiasts would like to extend an invitation to all Subaru enthusiasts for their 2008 Subaru Cruise! Now, if you are not in the Subaru "brotherhood/sisterhood," fear not, this invitation is extended to ALL enthusiasts of any make or model!


- Rules and Suggestions -

DRIVE RESPONSIBLY - We will be driving through many small, New Mexico towns. PLEASE FOLLOW THE SPEED LIMIT as we pass through, as we would like everyone to come home saying "Wow, that was fun" not "Darn, I got a ticket."

COMMUNICATION - Many of either use our cell phones or Walkie Talkies of various brands to keep in communication while driving. Walkie Talkie channel and call signs to be determined at the Meet and Greet.

PREPARE YOUR VEHICLE - Please make sure all fluids have been topped off and are secured, all tires have been inflated to proper levels, and that there are no problems with your tires or vehicle BEFORE you go on the cruise.

HELP EACH OTHER - Should someone have an issue with his or her car, notify the Cruise leaders about it and fall back to help out. The last thing anyone wants to do is leave a friend behind in the middle of no where.

STAY HYDRATED - A small travel cooler with a few water bottles is highly suggested to keep yourself and any passenger(s) hydrated during the cruise. We will make frequent stops, but it never hurts to be prepared.

PROTECTION FROM THE ELEMENTS - Remember, this is summer in New Mexico. Wear plenty of sunscreen (SPF 30 recommended), bring sunglasses to protect your eyes, and either a visor or hat to protect your head.

PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEOGRAPHY - Please, please, PLEASE bring a camera and/or video recording device. This event will be filled with great photo opportunities, as well as video opportunities from an in-car point of view. Charge your batteries, bring tapes/film/memory cards.

ENJOY YOURSELF - These cruises are filled with fun and camaraderie. Hang out with old friends, make new friends, enjoy the experiences, and more importantly, enjoy the beautiful scenery of our State of New Mexico!


- Itinerary -

Our meet will begin at 9:15 AM on Sunday, June 29th in the Starbucks / Dion's Pizza parking lot on Tramway and Central. The meeting will last for 45 minutes. This will allow for meet and greet time, photographs, video, and of course, an early morning fill up for drivers, passengers, and vehicles.

At 10:00 AM, we will begin the cruise:

I-40 East bound to TIJERAS

From TIJERAS, NM-388 SOUTH through multiple canyons and small towns until we arrive at CHILILI

From CHILILI, we will continue SOUTH, until we hit NM-55, which we will take WEST (then SOUTH WEST) to TORREON

We will continue on NM-55 until we reach MOUNTAINAIR

After leaving MOUNTAINAIR, we will take NM-60 WEST and connect to NM-47, which will bring us back NORTH to BELEN

| LUNCH BREAK |

We will stop in BELEN at Harla May's for lunch/dinner

| RESUME CRUISE |

Leaving BELEN, we will take NM-314 to LOS LUNAS, connect onto NM-47 NORTH once again, to enter into PERALTA and finally BOSQUE FARMS

Finally, we will take NM-47 NORTH out of BOSQUE FARMS, through the ISLETA PUEBLO, and on to I-25, leading back into Albuquerque



- Closing -

It depends on how many people stop and eat at the restaurant in Belen. If you just drove the entire route it through, it will take someone about 3 hours. I'm gonna stop at Harla May's Fat Boy Grill and eat lunch. So, my trip may take about 4.5 hours.

Hey guys. I don' know if that fire is completely out. If it's not out by the cruise the authorities won't let people pass through if they don't live up there. Cross your fingers. If that route is close will will have a backup plan and go the Northern route that was mentioned. I will update everyone on Sunday Morning.

Hi everyone. I look forward to seeing a ton of people tomorrow(6-29-08). We are meeting at the same location(Tramway and Central Starbucks) @ 9:15am and starting the cruise @ 10:00am.

Due to an unexpected fire in the Monzano mountains part of the southern route is completely closed. So, the route is going to be changed to the Northern route.

This new route will take us up to a bit south of Santa Fe and cruise down to San Felipe Pueblo driving through Bernaillo. This route is about 50 miles shorter than the original route. I plan on stopping the cruise at Rudy's BBQ on the westside of Albuquerque.
