May 01 ,2004: Road Rally Action!!!!

the Into The Night Rallye Team proudly presents
BUGARITAVILLE:
4 hr Monte Carlo style Road Rally

May 01, 2004

ALL ROAD LEGAL VEHICLES WELCOME. NO SPECIAL EQUIPMENT
REQUIRED. This event is an easy, map-based, backroad-oriented, timed event for first-time entrants and experts alike.

This is not a race. It is intended to be a test of your map-reading and instruction-following capabilities. However, you are expected to run "on time". Think if it as a giant board game, with the roads and landscape of California for a board and you and your car for a game piece.

Opportunities for spirited driving will abound. Paved roads only. 2 people per car (driver and navigator) are suggested. Event runs rain or shine. There are 4 classes: Beginner, Novice, Regular, and Expert. We suggest you bring a clipboard, pen, paper, 3 different colored highlight markers, and a light inside the car, other than the dome light, to read the maps at night.

The entry fee for this event is $20 per car. Please preregister if possible. VISA and Mastercard accepted. Send your name, address, phone, and with credit card info and signature, or check/money order payable to ITN, to the address below. If you can't preregister, please call or email us so we will know you are coming. All entries must bring registration, proof of insurance, and your driver's license to the Start.

And for all of you out there looking for a team mate; post here. Post whether you want to navigate or drive and where you will be coming from.

rally on:banana:

So training wheels was too easy and angel’s crown was bit more of a challenge, but you find yourself looking for more... and you are ready for some more back road action. But, are you ready for a field of 50 or more cars! Yeah, that’s right 50 teams to show “who da boss” of backroading and canyon carving is! This event is being held in conjunction with the New Beetle Club. So it time to show them cute little things a thing or two about the Beauty of All Wheel Drive! So if you are driven on the inside, and ready to get back to the road that never seem to straighten out, or where the night is blacker than black. COME ON OUT!!

On a side note: I told Joe that if we get more Subarus than vee-dubs there I wanted to rename the rally to:

Bug-a-Roo Banzai:
the wherever you go – there you are Road Rally

"paved road": if a road had been paved in anytime during recorded history it will be considerd "paved" for the purposes of this rally.

Man, that road was nuts, I really wanted to turn back, I thought the car was going to shake itself apart, at the very least I thought I would have had some very out of round 18" Rota Tarmac IIs.!! but all is well, cleaned the car and checked the heels and eveything is fine.

Honeslty though, that was the worst its ever been, and they have never done anything like that to us before.

If you are interested score are up for the last couple of rallies.
RESULTS PAGE

don't mind my wife and myself's horrible showing, we usually do better, but hey, stuff happens and you win some and loose some. This will just make me try that much harder the next time I compete. Lucky for you guys I will be working this next one

Also, I found this video clip that showed a TV segment on road rallying from the bay area (KRON). This is sooooo not like a Monte, but hey its about the concept of a road rally. So I thought it would be of interest.

Low Bandwidth Video

High Bandwidth Video

Here is a LINK to the TRC (the Rally Club) and some more information on different kinds of Rallies. (they are a Norcal/BAIC thing)

Hope to see everyone on 5/1

RR
ps: I am running rally pre-check, so I will let you know if you need to bring a 4x4 with mudders this time around

>>>>>>extra points to the person that can spot which member's car is in the video<<<<<<<

just got back from running rally pre-check

Ok folks, Just had the pleasure of running the rally route....in the rain:devil: .... you should be so lucky:banana:

At any rate, its a short rally. Less than 1/2 a tank of gas from my WRX. The Novice/Beginner's instructions are straight forward and the drive should be a hoot. The Regular/Experts run should be just enough to keep their minds sharp and their driving in tune.

And for those of you that had the opportunity to drive down Round Mtn Rd. with us on the last rally... There is NO dirt on this rally. OOOOO but the number of slippery 90 degree corners to drift around are awesome Nothing quiet like a full opposite lock powerslide around a 90 deg. gravel covered corner ... unless you're my wife... she had a few choice words about a full bladder and going sideways

They are expecting a huge turn out from the New Beetle club, I would hope to see at least 1/2 as many subies out there. So that would mean about 15-20 of us out there. Come on guys make me proud.

As always, first timers are always welcome, repeat offenders, we are ready to offer up some more awesome roads. Looking forward to seeing ya'll out there.

Rally On!!

for those of you still wondering what to expect. Here is a overview of the last rally. It was 8 hours and covered a lot more distance.

here is a close up of one of the best sections. tight technical and just a tad slick in spots.... guaranteed to scare the cr@p out of your passenger if they aren't prepared for it

There are so many of the regulars working the rally I am really looking forward to some new faces out there. It would be nice to see a Subaru win in every class

Looks like these guys are ready to hit the road

don't laugh, we have seen much bigger guys packed into a much smaller car
....actually, there's no laughing at them when they pack 350+hp!

Could this be on our route? ..........hmmmmmmmmm

Whooo hoooo. Less than a week to go!!!

For those of you planning on going, could you do me a favor and PM me (or respond here) that you are planning on attending. I just want to get a head count for the subie folks as well as the Novices that are planning on coming. Joe's computer is down and he has no way of getting email, so I am planning on calling him and letting him know how many people are coming and how instruction/map sets we need.

thanks.

For those of you that need further directions here is a map to the start location. Remember to allow yourself time to Fuel up before you get to Rally Start. Many people find themselves scrambling at the start when they realize they don’t have enough fuel to get to the first fuel break. ( hint: there is NO Fuel break on this rally).

Also please give yourself time to attend the navigators/ orientation class. It will be very helpful for your first foray into this form of motorsport. I know its tempting to just show up for the second class and not have to wake up early, but know this, instructions for the beginners and novices are handed out at 10:00a and those that arrive earlier will have that extra time to prepare for their little adventure.

On my last visit to the area I noted that there was just a few places to get fuel in the immediate area. You will only need one tank of gas for this rally (unless you drive a 427 Cobra or something, you might need more ).

Good luck, I’ll be there bright and early to help out. And if possible park your Subarus (and Civic Wagon ) in the same area, I would like to try and get a group photo of all of us at START.

cya@standoff.
