actually i think he just made holes in the wall for them. if you look at the first one, behind the right speaker you can see a glimpse of a wire, i think.

another option is "flat wire" which is flat enough to go onto a wall and painted over if necessary.

did this on a custom home remodel. the entertainment room was glass walls on 3 sides, so went up the ceiling.
