Better built is a marketing term used for years. It discribed how one company can design and built a product better than another company. In this case the JDM engine does things that the USDM engine cannot.
The 2.0 liter JDM STi engine can out perform the USD 2.5 STi engine. It's components are engineered and designed to support the turbo application more so than its USDM 2.5 counterpart.
eg: Oil consumption issues that are experienced in the USDM "non turbo 2.5 RS engine with a STi turbo bolted on"/STi to see to the US market. The oil issues were not seen on the 2.0 USDM "turbo designed engine" WRX.
Better is used here is the best example "Better Business Bureaus"
If a company is crappy take them to the "Better Business Bureaus"
Too bad there is not a BEB "Better Engine Bureaus"
Just in case you think I'm throwing stones. I own both a WRX and STi and I am speaking from experience.
