no one can afford nice digi cam there or at least have digi cam with hyper shutter speed to catch moving objects.. especially during night time when all most of the luminoscity is concentrated on the swaying tail lights.. however, i think videos would do the job. i wonder if EOS SLR can do the job.. anyone has one of those?

no you dont need a fancy digital slr. you can take good night action shots with a basic point and shoot like a canon elph. you need to have it on sports mode and Follow the object. the point of focus was the backround not the car. having a fast shutter speed is to capture the object frozen (i.e. the rims are still).

here are 2 images. the first is "following" the object and with a slow shutter speed the car looks its moving. the second shot if you look at the rims it seems frozen in time everything is in focus. although these are pro shots you can still do the same with a point and shoot.

look at the rear wheels. they are in perfect focus like "freezing" the car in time.

well.. it's quite different during day time. of course its all about having the right setting. you might not NEED the slr.. i was just WONDERING if that'll do the job. btw.. those photos look quite professional..did you take them yourself? what kinda cam? digi? 35mm? else?

no there not mine but its not hard to do. the blitz one was done with point and shoot. like you said its just about using the right setting. and luckily for the point and shoots you just hit sports mode and youre done. for the night shots you dont use a flash unless you want the foreground to be lit and the back round to be dark.

i only have a S330.. its crap comparing to the newest ones out there... so point and shoot doesn't work all the time.. it would be nice if you can store your settings in the memory.. unfortunately.. i don't have a so-called sports mode on my camera.. so i have to adjust manually.
