Ticket?

Ok so I'm getting onto the freeway and I have car infront of me and one to my left side. I slow down to let the car on the left get past and I scoot underneath them and over two more lanes. I accelerate up to 100 and look in my mirror and see a suspicious motorcycle about 3/4-2/3 of a mile back that's in my lane. I let off the throttle and ease down to 75. At this point the motorcyle has gained a lot of distance and I now know for sure it is a CHP. I cruz at this speed for a short distance and than he gives me the light. Ok I deserve this one and I know it. I roll both my front windows down(tinted) and he walks to the passenger side and asks for the usual. As I'm getting my things for him I start to ask three questions.
1. What did you pull me over for?
CHP:Speeding.
2. Do you have a radar?
CHP:No.
3. How did you determine I was speeding?
CHP:I don't know, I guessed.

So now I'm confused at this point. He writes me a ticket for 80 in a 65. He then tells me "Well actually I was pacing you, and that is how I got your speed." I thinking well that's funny cause I wasn't going a consitant rate of speed the whole time I was driving on the freeway.

Now I'm at a point in which I challenge this or plead no contest and ask for reduction of fine and of course I'm able to do traffic school since I have not had a ticket in three years. Also I have a witness to what was said.

All in all it was under a mile from the point I got on the freeway, moved over to the fast lane, was paced and caught up to and merged back over the the slow lane shoulder. There was four lanes of traffic. Probably not going to fight it but the person that was with me is very bad luck. The last time she was in a car with me(which was over 6 years ago) I got into an accident.

If you were going with the flow, challenge him. Otherwise, don't.

I would challenge on the basis of he never actually clocked you in speeding, and you have a witness. Make sure that you have your story locked before you do this though. If you are iffy on the story and the officer is dead on, you will lose.

Maybe call an attorney and see if they can give you a little free advice. Might save you some money in the long run.

i think all chp officers have to be certified to estimate speeds, but if he said he didn't know what speed you were going, you may be able to contest it?

good luck!

If you were able to do all that within a mile you had to be flying.

Distance verses time

@ 100mph you can cover 1/4 mile in 14 seconds.

@ 60mph it will take 60 seconds to cover that mile.

Merging to fast lane and back to slow lane and off to the side within a mile is a lot.

You will set yourself up trying to explain how you got into the fast lane in such a short time (We all know the adverage speed of which traffic flows 70 to 80). scooting under the other two cars in another indicator that you were flying.

You will have to alter or omit alot of info to avoid this one. If you were in the slow lane all the time then you would have a chance, but lane changes reveals a lot too.

just my observations

He actually got the speed pretty accurate. 100/64 is an average speed of about 80.

The passenger isn't really bad luck. You were going 100mph.

It sucks that you got a ticket though. I'm not picking on you, I'm no saint my self. Just pay and go to traffic school.

That's what I think I'm going to do, and at least try to get a reduced fine too.
