Hey everyone,
Been a while since I've posted here, but was just wondering what the current recommendations are...
My 04 WRX is up for smog...
Currently, I have the stock OEM uppipe (with cat), Cobb Stage II with bellmouth hi-flow catted DP and dual tip whisper exhaust.
I know people have said put the stocker back on and then go get smogged and call it a day.. but what about if I don't want to put the stocker back on (just being lazy I suppose)? Just have to take it somewhere where they don't care about the visual inspection, right?
Do I need to reflash my AP back to Stage 1? Stock OEM? Does it matter? I know a few people have posted about being stage 2 and passing emissions. To me, the stage 2 seems to have a "rich" gas kind of smell to it. Dunno if that's the best ECU setting?
Oh and I know, run it for a while before taking it in (to get that cat nice and hot) and have the guy smog it immediately.
Anyone know of a good shop near Monterey Park, CA?
Thanks for any help,
-C

well you should fail visual right away with those cats. Some dont know what the stock one looks like. DO NOT RESET THE COMPUTER! it has to have X amount of miles on it before they can hook up the OBDII cable

so I bit the bullet and just took it to get smogged today in the SGV
with the above setup.
And I passed

RPM %CO2 %O2 HC (PPM) CO% Result
708 14.6 0.3 25 0.00 PASS
2429 14.6 0.0 9 0.09 PASS
Guy seemed pretty nice, and actually did try to look for stuff in the engine bay, but I also got the feeling that he didn't really know what to look for in the subies.
Stealth exhaust setup FTW!!!

I would have guessed you would have passed the sniffer, it's just trying to get by the visual that gets most of us. All depends on where you go I guess. Anyway, congrats!
