So I Went Canyoning...
So I Went Canyoning...
I live down here in Orange County, and I visit my friends up in Thousand Oaks/Newbury Park a few times a month. So I have my wrx, my friend has a nice 2nd gen mr2 and theres other people that go with us that have evo/240sx/ae86/skyline(yea i know)/alltrac celica. We used to go up piuma, mullholland, and stunt road all the time until cops began camping on up there. We got caught once and never went back again since they stay at the bottom. So all we can do is find another canyon run to claim.
So one day we head out to Sand Canyon which is also known as Angeles National Canyon. Me and my friend with the mr2 which has a lot of suspension work go up at about 5pm to learn the road and get ready for nighttime. The road is amazing, there are these long banked hairpins that you can see in the daytime which you can use a full out in out line and theres about 10+ of them. The road gets very technical and it was a blast to memorize the course. All throughout the day we see people running it too. I remember a 240sx that had to have a blacktop sr20 in it, a older m3, and a gti. By about 11 oclock we headed down and got a bite to eat and go back up to the run and get to the halfway lookout point. We start runs from there. Once the alltrac celica showed up we ran the canyon in 3's about 2 times until we went back up to the lookout and let our cars cool down. We were just chillin until i hear this loud raspy *** exhaust come up the hill and yea it was a civic. All of us were pretty skeptical about this guy but whatever we all went for a run. The order was me/civic/mr2/alltrac. To my surprise he kept up with me pretty well. When i looked back at every corner entry he would close the gap quickly with late braking. I was feeling pressure from him on every turn in. but by the apex of the turn I would power out of it with the slight hint of oversteer and it would put him 2-3 car legnths behind me. This went on for 2 more runs and I was pretty impressed in the way he drives. And later we poped his hood to discover a jdm 99 integra type r motor. And yes it was a sleeper. But what surprised me is all he had on his civic suspension wise was springs and struts. No reinforcement of the chassis whatsoever. Kinda scared me but also made me think of how well he handled his car.
All in good fun.

it's more about the experience of driving and the feeling of your car on the twisted roads..
its fun running alone.. cuz then you don't need to worry about others you're following or others that follow you.. caravan is fun.. but canyoning alone can be fun as well...

+1... dont want to be stuck behind francis!
i trust myself so i'm safe behind him.. he doesn't go fast on the canyon.. safety first may be his priority.. hehe.. but if i was him.. i wouldn't trust me for following him so closely..

Well Kevin's paint job is already focked, so it doesn't matter if Francis kicks rocks at him....
