SANTA CLARITA, Calif. Following the eighth Southern California freeway shooting in two months, the state Highway Patrol announced it has created an investigative team to more quickly track down leads in the cases. The new unit will work with local law enforcement agencies as the CHP also increases its patrols on the region's freeways, officials said.

The latest shooting came during the afternoon commute Monday on Highway 14 in the Newhall Pass area, when a bullet pierced a windshield of a sport utility vehicle. The male driver, the only one in the vehicle, was not injured.

The CHP also released details of a shooting early Saturday in which a 16-year-old driver and his 17-year-old passenger were targeted on Interstate 5 in the Sun Valley area when a sedan pulled alongside the teens' Toyota. The driver, hit three times, drove himself to a hospital and was expected to survive. The passenger was not injured.

Authorities said the shooting may have been motivated by road rage.

In a separate incident, a 19-year-old man shot three times early Sunday while driving on Interstate 405 was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center. He was in stable condition and was expected to survive.

Authorities were also investigating whether shots were fired at a motorist early Sunday on Interstate 210. The CHP received a report of beer cans being thrown and gunfire near the Hubbard Street off-ramp at that time.

In the past five weeks, two men were killed in separate incidents on the Harbor Freeway in Los Angeles. Two others also recently were killed in freeway shootings in neighboring counties.

Four people have been killed in 11 freeway shootings this year. In 2004, there were 36 freeway shootings, with one person killed. In 2003, there were 46 incidents and four fatalities.

IF YOUR CAR IS SLOW THE BEST PLACE TO BE IS BEHIND THE SUSPECTS CAR. THIS MAKES IT HARDER FOR THE SUSPECT TO AIM AT YOU. IF YOUR GETTING SHOT AT FROM A FRONT PASSENGER STAY TOWARDS THE LEFT REAR OF THE VEHICLE. IF GETTING SHOT AT BY DRIVER STAY TOWARDS HIS RIGHT REAR. THE SUSPECT WOULD BE STUPID TO SHOOT OUT HIS OWN WINDOWS. IT WOULD MAKE IT EASIER FOR POLICE TO FIND HIM HOWEVER DONT RULE THIS OUT HE MAY BE STUPID ENOUGHT TO DO IT. BY STAYING TO HIS REAR HE MOST LIKELY WILL JUST DRIVE AWAY IF HE CANT GET A GOOD SHOT AT YOU. IF YOU GET IN FRONT ITS EASIER FOR THE SUSPECT TO AIM AT YOU. YOUR CAR BETTER BE FAST IF YOU DO THIS.

WHEN YOUR LIFE IS LEGITIMATELY IN DANGER YOU CAN USE WHATEVER FORCE YOU NEED TO PROTECT YOURSELF JUST DON'T HURT INNOCENT PEOPLE WHILE DOING SO. IF YOU GOT TO RAM THE FOOL OR MAKE HIM WIPE OUT THEN DO IT. DONT WIPE YOURSELF OUT IN THE PROCESS.

THIS TIME ITS NOT BECAUSE OF THE SPEED, CAN YOU SAY LIFE.

MOST IMPORTANT..... WHEN YOU USE THAT CELL PHONE TO CALL THE POLICE YOU NEED TO BE CALM SO THE DISPATCHER CAN UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU ARE. IF NOT THEY CANT DIRECT HELP TO YOU. BE BRIEF " IM TRAVELING NORTH ON THE 5FWY AT APPROX 100 MPH IN A RED DODGE. I GOT SOMEONE SHOOTING AT ME IN A PINK HONDA. WE JUST PAST SAN FERNANDO RD. IN SATA CLARITA".... EVERYTHING THEY NEEDED TO KNOW WAS SAID. REMEMBER SLOW, DEEP BREATHS AND TALK SLOWWW AND TO THE POINT. SAVE SCREAMING AND YELLING IT NEVER HELPS IT'S A WASTE OF TIME. I am over 20, hehe. Ya, if people want to pass, let them pass. Do we need to worry about our meet and caravan? Stupid people may shoot us?? I have nothing to do while I am driving nowadays... so I start trying to remember people's plate. I think it's easier if I remember the number at the end, then the letter... and then the first number (since the first number is only up to like 5... you can probably guess). Any suggestion as to how to remember people's plate. I think if you get shoot, try not to pursuit... just remember the god damn plate and stay away.

 

repeat yourself continuously, pull aside write down the plate number, car info as you call the popo.

 

I did that couple of night ago when I tried to remember the matrix that went over the rail stop... I forgot 2-3 characters when I try to write it down, haha.

Well, my PDA has a recording function, so I can just speak to it. I think that's the best option for me.

 

My cell phone has a memo feature, which would probably be easiest for me. Just grab the phone, hit memo, then talk away.
It does get me a little paranoid about driving the freeways. I usually don't even pay attention when a car pulls up next to me and matches my speed. Now I'm trying to be more attentive to who's driving around me...

yea some guy threw **** at my car, and pretended to hit me and ****...and he kept driving in the shoulder trying to signal for me to pull over so he could fight me or whatever. i just called the cops on him and they told me to keep increasing the distance between me and him. so i did.
