They have cameras on the sides of the high ways that take pictures and video of you speeding. A few weeks later you get a nifty ticket in the mail with a pic of you and your license plate and a link to the video of you speeding. While tickets are lame, I was very impressed.

In the packet of papers they sent me is a picture of my face in the vehicle, a pic of my license plate (I believe the red light cameras take similar pics), and a link to the online video. Basically it measure your speed by how fast you move over some sensors, if you're over whatever speed the cameras activate and start recording/taking pics. I was only going "76," but I've definately done worse before. It's treated just like a regular speeding ticket: pay it and take points, protest it, go to traffic school, or identify who the driver was if it wasn't you.
I have seen some article saying that it is coming to SoCal soon.. ( im trying to find it so I can post it....).... What I want to know is... who votes for this crap~??

Can anyone link the section of the CA vehicle code that refers to speed traps?
What's funny is that I wrote an essay for an english class a couple years ago that recommended implementing a system like this in CA. I didn't really support it because I had to pick a topic I could easily write about (I had to come up with a way to prevent speeding).
I mean, when you think about it, I'd rather have cops in the streets patrolling and preventing other crimes, than driving around catcing people speeding, but yes, it sucks.

I heard that these cameras are really high end cams designed by Lockheed Martin. So powerful that they can zoom all the way to view your vin on the dash. That info is from my traffic school class 2 years ago.
