RPOD: Should the math geek be mad?

Suppose I'm in a math competition. First place winner gets a TI-89 and an A on the final exam for the math class being taken. Second place gets an A on the final exam for the same math class being taken. Third place winner gets a cheat sheet for his final exam. The first place winner gave the second runner up his TI-89. However, the second place winner has an uber awesome Casio that does the trick already and decided to sell the TI-89 that was given to him. Should the first place math geek be mad?

Ti-86 because it does statistics.
but yeah if you get something from other people for free.. depending on the situation of the gift giving. Turning around and selling it and making profit out of it just seems like bad ethics to me..
