PS3 Advice...

So I have decided that between not having a Blu-Ray player for my HDTV and having been disappointed lately with the single player games for the Wii that it is time I invest in a next generation system this Christmas season.

I have all but settled on the 80GB Playstation 3 system for $399.99; but before I cut the check - I would like some advice.

I have heard that the quality of these systems leaves much to be desired and that I can expect to send it RMA at least 1 time in its life. I am OK with that but if I am going to spend $400 on a system - RMA instances should not only be kept at 1; but should only appear years after I buy the system, not months.

I have looked everywhere I can think of but I cannot find a better deal on this system (new 80GB, never opened) there are some bundles out there with extra controllers and cables and what not, however I already have HDMI cables up the wazoo and my friend is letting me have his extra DS3 controller. Anyone know of anyplace that is liquidating its PS3s?

Last question - is this system really worth $400 or would waiting for after Christmas harken better unto my wallet?

Thanks in advance!

PS: I am usually in BAIC, but was told you guys are the experts on PS3s.

heat is the biggest issue and prolly the biggest contrib factor of why they fail. mainly hardware related. if you ask sigma pi i think he's on his 3rd or 4th system now. but then again I have a 60gb launch system and have no problems with it. i know they have made revisions to their cooling system and i believe also gone to a 65nm process on their chips so they use less power and heat now. just keep it well ventilated or buy a laptop cooler pad for extra safety measure.

Is that site legit? It looks more like a pop-up ad than a real credit approval site...

Has anyone here done this?

The graphics are the best i've seen. The selection of games gets better by the day, but i don't have wifi hooked up on mine, so couldn't say anything there...

^^ keep in mind that you're opening up a credit card when you do this. if you don't mind that you're going to have another credit card on your record, go for it.

If opening up sony card is cool, I'd go with the cheaper model because its hella easy to upgrade the harddrive. I own an 80gigger and my hd is filled with games maybe 20? And loads of **** even in blu ray on the hard drive. I'm halfway on the memory at the moment but will upgrade the memory maybe after the holidays since more **** is coming in blu ray format.

Isn't the internal HD just a laptop HD? I would assume you would need to change a few things here and there though...

Can you connect a USB HD to the USB ports on the PS3?

you upgrade the HD, you lose your warranty.

You can stream video and music through tversity or media server. ask theheckwithyou

I'm using tversity to stream video thru wii. It's pretty neat program.
