as far as i know, exhaust tickets are no longer correctable. meaning, they aren't "fix it" tickets anymore. I got one about 3 months ago with my previous car and the ticket was 100 bucks. All I had to do was pay the fine.

correct me if i'm wrong but if you get pulled over with a modified exuast but you still have a cat on it and you don't push over the recomended dps range then can you still get a ticket or not. I know that chp's think they know the world when it comes to mods on car.

as longas it's under 95 db technically you're fine. you will still probably get a ticket, but you can fight it after getting it sound tested. even if it's not a "melon launcher" you can get pulled over. I've heard of quite a few Imprezas getting pulled over for modified exhaust and their exhausts were stock.

pm me if you need help on this...the fine is approx $120. It is correctable if you pass the db test and fight it in court. plus you get a certificate from the state ref to say your vehicle meets all the db requirements for CA.

I just went through this bs. it took me 30 min to get my car tested and 1/2 a day at court. either way, it was worth fighting so I didnt have to pay $120 for not violating the vehicle code.

oh, and the state ref doesnt care about having no cats, they dont hand out the tickets, cops do. All they're there to do is check your exhaust for sound levels and its free, as long as you've been given a ticket.

it's still correctable depending on the officer. it's up to his discretion whether he wants to let you fix it or not and pay the 10 dollar fee. I just got one on august 2nd, and i just put my silencer on for a day and got a cop to sign it off.

yeah, I had helix up/downpipe and HKS hiper catback with a silencer and it was 92db. it hit 97.2 db w/o the silencer (0.2 db over the limit)

there are signs at all the sherrifs offices saying "exhaust violations are non correctable" neither are tire modification tickets (wrong sized tires/mis-matched tires) so you could still be hit with a larger fine. Some officers still dont know that its a non-correctable violation so they just check the wrong box on the ticket...that doesnt mean its correctable, the CVC violation code is still the same number no matter what box is checked.

Or you could do what I did and fight it via "Trial by Written Declaration." I won and so can you. If you want help on the arguments, lemme know.
