well, I quit paintball about a year ago, but the relatively cheap ones, (the spyders) are terrible. Heres a quick list for those who actually are interested in buying a marker.
heres expensive (usually in the range of $1k to $2k):
The gun below is the DYE dm8. (i left about the time the dm6 came out)
These usually have electronic sensors so you don't chop the paintballs in the chamber, have 20-30bps (ball per second) rate of fire, and are electronically adjustable. This includes guns like the WDP Angel, and E-bladed autocockers.
Here's a good entry level gun (usually around $200):
WGP Autococker. Mechanical operation so there will be jamming, chops, etc. However, you can upgrade it later if wanted with an e-blade and add an antichop eye where you see teh hex nut is on the side of the chamber. When you radar the gun, you take out the rod sticking out in the back of the marker, and turn the adjustment screw inside. Its a nice gun to have. I have a really old one that is pretty much dead. ('99 model year)
You will need a box of paintballs because you will use a lot up in a days worth of playing.

Smart parts ION is a good starter gun. Electric trigger, ramping, and the "Teh eye" for preventing ball choppage.. Sub 300 gun.. I think i got mine for 199 back in the day

heres a place to look in order to get started. Also, have a roll of teflon piping tape with you. Lots of coarse threaded plumbing type joints that can leak air.

ah yes.. the ion. Cheap, electronic operation, hated by the serious paintballers because they sold out to the "big corporations". but also a good entry gun.
