you got cited to go to the test station? not the sheriff's?
fix-it tickets are quite lucky now. normally people are issued fines. if it is a fix-it, then im sure you can leave the DP on and just pop on the silencer, if it's quiet enough. (that's only the sheriff's check though.)

Exhaust tickets are no longer correctable in CA. The cop made a mistake. Once you get it signed off and go to the courthouse to pay the $10 fee, they might catch it and ask you to pay the actual fine which supposedly doubles w/ each additional infraction. The fine ranges between $70 to $150.
When going to the test station, they'll pop your hood and verify that there are no leaks in your exhaust system. I don't know how thorough of a check it is, but they will also take your VIN, license plate #, DL, model of cat-back and other pertinent info to make sure that if/when you get busted next time, and you passed, you still have the same exhaust system as when you got tested. Now the cop will have to either have to do a better check to verify your exhaust system is still the same as when you got tested.
If you have aftermarket intakes and other engine goodies, I don't know if they'll add that to their report for the certification. When you get checked, it's a fee of $30 IIRC. If you have not received a modified exhaust ticket and wish to have it certified, the fee is higher and I have no idea on the cost.
I am currently fighting my ticket via "Trial by Written Declaration" which means it's a trial through the mail. I should be hearing from the court within the next few weeks.
I suggest that when you pay your $10 processing fee, and they try to charge you for the extra, pay the remainder of the bail and request for a "Trial by Written Declaration" and if you'd like, I can try and help you as best as I can.
Either way, good luck!
