It’s Hip to be Square! The L.A. Tofu Festival Marks it’s 11th Anniversary on August 12-13
(Los Angeles, CA.) The 11th Annual L.A. Tofu Festival will be held in Little Tokyo, the Japanese district in downtown Los Angeles, on August 12 and 13. The festival will feature over 100 imaginative and delicious tofu dishes served by L.A.’s hottest restaurants as well as artisanal soy products and a wide array of Pan-Asian and non-vegetarian specialties. Nearly 30,000 people are expected to gather for the 11th annual outdoor event, themed, “It’s Hip to Be Square!” Back by popular demand, live entertainment, the Marketplace, the Health & Fitness Lane, the Beer, Wine & Sake Garden, a Saturday night concert by Blackalicious and the popular Tofu Eating Contest, all return to accompany the great soy selections. New to the 2006th L.A. Tofu Festival is the Celebrity Chef Cooking Demonstration Stage featuring Tommy Tang, Iron Chef Morimoto & Troy Thompson (Iron Chef America), Reggie Sutherland (Next Food Network Star), Scott Liebfried (Hell’s Kitchen), Candice Kumai (Bravo’s Top Chef) and many others. Also new, is the first United States (US) “Initial D” anime marathon in English, shown continuously on multiple plasma screens.
Sponsored by House Foods America Corporation, the 2006th Tofu Festival will take place during the first weekend of the 66th Annual Nisei Week Japanese Festival, on Saturday, August 12, from 2 pm to 10 pm and Sunday, August 13, from 12 pm to 6 pm in downtown Los Angeles on San Pedro Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets. General admission is $8 and dishes range from $1-$4 per serving.
All proceeds benefit the programs of the Little Tokyo Service Center, a social service agency providing a wide range of services to the Los Angeles community for over 25 years, including mental health counseling, transportation, low-income housing, childcare, information referral, and crisis hotline.
