Yep, the production cars fenders are not indented. But indented fenders do exist. I saw a Subaru rally car at the San Francisco auto show and it had indented recesses for the side signals. The fenders could also be wider flares and the recess to improve aerodynamics and could be a one off piece.

USDM cars are not prewired for these. Once you cut the holes using templates available here on the boards, you run two wires from the fender to the headlight and splice them into the front turn signals. Pretty easy.

Re: the templates; I had to modify the ones I found. Just printing them out I found they weren't the exact size. I kept making test templates on card board first and finally came up with the right fit. What's the old saying? Measure twice, cut once.
