Install garages in LA area?
Install garages in LA area?
What are the best spots in LA for having some engine work done to my WRX? I'm looking for a good shop to install an up pipe, looking for a good price but more importantly quality service and workmanship. If you think I should install myself, I would love to hear about your experience installing yours (easy, difficult, impossible?).
Not in LA, but Aerosim Research Ltd. is in Costa Mesa. The owner, Steve, does meticulous installs. Definitely check them out if you're open to driving a little south.
Their phone number is (714) 545-5679.

I've had work done by Harman Motive in Torrance, and Speed Factory in Industry. Both did quality work, and I havent had any problems.
Uppipe install usually runs around $150.

'Average cost' is really a subjective number in this case. How willing are you to compromise quality for an extra twenty bucks? How about fifty? I would say the price for an up-pipe install could be anywhere from $100-$300. But it's not worth it to pay $100 for a crappy install and get a leak the next week. I suggest finding a reputable shop you feel comfortable going to that can competantly answer all your questions.
Make sure your installer uses NEW gaskets (manifold to up-pipe and up-pipe to turbo - I'd get a new turbo to downpipe gasket just to be sure) and that they torque everything down in the correct order and according to the correct torque specifications. The last thing you want is a broken stud or leaky up-pipe after shelling out for a professional install..
And lastly, if you're planning on doing a downpipe in the future, might as well get one now - the downpipe install should be included in the up-pipe install price.
Good luck.
Definitely appreciate all of your responses, I guess I'll be going to Aerosim, sounds like a safe bet. As far as downpipes go, what are you guys running, catted or catless? Does catted really pass smog? If you guys are running catless what are you doing about smog checks? Just curious.
Hey Guys (Kym, Kenji and Stigma), thanks for the props...Actually Mino is the power...he is VERY meticulous, especially about other people's cars!
Uppipe install is about $100-120, depending on car condition. You must supply new gaskets for both up and down pipes. And new studs if the car is older.
