Drinking, partying and drugs... that does NOT mix with any car, especially a WRX...
Also, as a man who managed to live through my teenage years even after all the stupid crap I have done... I'd never give a turbocharged car to a 17 year old. It's asking for trouble. Heck, a 2.5i can be too fast for a kid...
I feel bad that people had to die for their mistakes, but in the end they caused it themselves. Unfortunately, sometimes the purpose of someone's life is simply to serve as warning to others, hopefully their friends will learn from this.
