To be frank, a lot of people don't know what they're talking about - you can weed out their opinions by being a smart consumer yourself.

I also wouldn't hesitate to do a search. There are plenty of people outside of Southern California who can give you good advice.
kym has good advice. It would be good to know the set-ups, and then decide which you think is best for your situation. One guy will think that his manufacturer coilover and set-up is the best, but everything about your situation will be different. You said that you do autox and canyon driving, and want something for that. Just remember that you will also be doing a lot of daily driving, which depending on where you live, might give a harsh ride.
If you know what you want, seek out those that have similar set-ups and go for a ride. It would be nice to have a first hand experience of what they're like.

things are much easier if there is support and rebuilds offered in the US (tein, JIC etc).
take a look at megan racing coilovers? these aren't that bad for under $1000..

ok im settled on the flexs. better spring rate, dual perch, inifinite adjustments and better dampening. now i have talked to a few people and they said i have to go get the coilovers tuned from a shop. i understand that i have to get it balanced and alighnment after the install. but for someone to tune it for street/canyon/auto x use would cost 200 bucks. is this true? i would think that if the kit is for the wrx, then tein would already tune it for street purposes. i am getting the edfc too, but that only controls dampening.

tune?? the only one that require setup is JIC as far as i know..
you just need alignment , camber and height adjustment done..
if u run edfc.. u just need all the wires done... that's all..

Not matter what if you want the most out of your coilovers you should get a true corner weight balance and alignment.

You've already paid the extra cash for full on coilovers and edfc, why go cheap at that point and just finish it the way is should be, you'll only be cheating yourself.

To the best of my knowledge, none of the JIC coilovers for Subaru require any "set up" after installation. Again, consult with JIC USA to clarify (Don't bother contacting JIC Japan - you won't understand a thing they're saying). When I ran the FLTA2-RS, JIC did do some custom tuning after corner weighting, but it wasn't a necessity.

And I agree with Franco - I would highly recommend corner weighting if you're serious about tracking your car. It really makes a huuuuuuuuuuge difference. Just make sure you're IN the car while they're doing it (key!). Makes turn ins and weight transfer teh uber smooth!

Heard this, heard that. I keep saying... know for yourself. It's the best way to keep from being misinformed, and then misinforming others.

I worked at JIC USA. They are capable of custom tuning suspension, yes, but their suspension is good to go out-of-the-box. I'd say most suspension available to civilian-driven Subarus are. The Subaru aftermarket is still too financially meager for manufacturers to even bother making nice++ suspension available to normal folk. Now, Audi, BMW, Ferrari.... that's another story.

Can you imagine having a spare $20,000 to spend on suspension? Mmmmmm.

Jong K "John" was my boss. He's the owner of JIC USA... In those days, there were more Porsches there than Subarus, even though all the employees were Subaru folk!

Those were totally the good ole days.
