I went up to norcal this weekend and I got pulled over for my modified exhaust.
This is what I have: Helix uppipe, HKS downpipe, 5zigen midpipe, bozz speed circut version V axleback (super-duper loud).
So, after following me for about a mile, he desides to pull me over. As soon as I stop, I turn off my car so he doesn't smell the nasty exhaust. Soit went down like this:
Cop: So, what do you have there? (pointing to the scoop)
me: it's an hoodscoop sir, it comes stock with all wrxs and stis. are you interested in buying a subaru sir?
cop: no, i would never buy a car like this.
me: ok...so, what is the problem sir?
cop: i have never heard a car that sounds like yours.
me: oh, i modified the exhaust, well, actually only the muffler section.
cop: well it sounds illegal. any modifications to any pipe is illegal.
me: that is what i thought too sir, but i checked on www.dmv.ca.gov and the CHP had a list of common violations, and as long as i kept it under 95db and not touch the emissions, i'm all good. I did my research before i bought this muffler sir.
cop: i still think it's illegal. it sounds good, but illegal.
me: well, i know it is perfectly legal sir, you can go ahead and write me a fix-it ticket. (still tripping out that i actually said this)
cop: where are you from?
me: i've been going to school in riverside for the past year sir.
cop: i guess it would be hassel for you to fix the exhaust then? isn't it?
me: yes sir. but i assure you that i'm not breakiny any kind of laws.
cop: ok. then. drive safetly.
me: you too sir. have a nice night.
then he leaves...then i start my car...then he comes back around...then i turn off my car...then he leaves.
very close call.

for some reason, everytime i get pulled over, the cops always compliment on my exhaust. like the last speeding ticket i got, he said, "here you go (handing me the ticket), drive safetly, and nice sound."

HAHA I got pulled over because my "headlights are not within regulation". First off they are totally stock and off all things the policeman could have be doing in one of the most violent cities in America I am left explaining that "my headlights are not modified in any way" and that I would gladly meet him at the dealer at his convenience to prove my point. Nothing about engine modifications was even mentioned but they are all legal here. Yeah for catless, dB pronouncing fun.
