i went there before and i wasn't really impressed. their broth was too thick with too much flavor. i think ramen club is better, but that's just me. the guy making all the ramen is really friendly too (we sat at the counter). he gave us a dorayaki last night.

himawari in san mateo isn't bad either... their gyoza was pretty good.

ahaaha no, he's an older gentleman. he's just a friendly store owner.

have you tried the ajinomoto pork gyoza? it's good stuff. i need to try making gyoza from scratch, though.

I just realized that ajinomoto is a company. At first I was trying to figure out what 'moto' is because i know aji is spanish mackerel (i love it with yuzu). I don't recall having it before. If you make meat stock and put it in the fridge, the stock will transform into a jello like state. Then you can scoop that and mix it into your dumpling recipe and the gyoza will become more jyushi juicy.. i learn that from shin dotch ryouri sho.

fun fact about ajinomoto:

One of their flavorings they used in the past was MSG.

ooh... i've never made meat stock though. if you ever make hamburg steak, add about two tablespoons of japanese mayo before you cook it and the hamburg steak will come out nice and juicy. that was from some japanese show too. maybe you already knew that.

Personally, I don't like too much flavor in the broth either. I like seasoning to taste stuff and on that note, i'd really rather have something a little bland compared to something that is too strong.

after the health department deemed MSG unhealthy, my parents stopped using it. They have salt in that shaker now.

But it does make food tastier. No doubt at all.

Ya, but I haven't eaten doritos in a while. Also i think they meant MSG in large quantities. Like dumping a whole vat of it in your stew or whatever.. I'll look, but there was a whole "No-MSG" campaign when I was in middle school.

EDIT - http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~lrd/msg.html

Pretty much what i said in this message. Its unhealthy if heavily consumed.
