Its not called permission (and i did ask my section head about this) because we can flex our time later. Its a REALLY wierd "non"rule.... Thus why I said "unspoken" rule. No wonder why aerospace guys are walking around confused all the time. lawl

At my old work, we had to issue a request to request a change to a drawing. This included misspelled words and sentences not ending in a period.
hmm.... are you on the clock? your not right...
hmm thats why i like being out on the road more than stuck in teh office... we get to flex our time but i typically flex it to my advantage... start when i want leave when i want and just report my findings...

I usually "flex time" by finishing my work early (or finishing at a good stopping point) and leaving. But waiting for info is the worst thing that can happen. It basically grinds the train to a halt.
ok now you confused me... so...
if you "flex time" by finishing your work early you can leave but if your supervisor wants something done and you already "Flex time" and left then???
So technically.... your SOL no matter what cause If you flex and get lucky well good for you but if you flex and don't get lucky then your SOL. But if you don't flex and your supper does not need anything then your still SOL...
hmm..... i say Screw it flex all the time if he needs something done get one of those clock things you can put on your desk that says Be Back at 8:00AM

Your third line is spot on and exactly what I've been trying to say all along.. For example, If you say you're gonna flex and the lead catches you and says that you need to finish something for him or you are halting manufacturing or satellite integration, that gives everybody a black eye. So..... you have to stay and do the job. However, I couldn't finish the work without material information, nor a CAD model, and they weren't available since the designer was gone for the day. Which is what happened the other day and is what happens anywhere. Hated it to become some long winded explanation of why I "flaked" or why I "wussed out" of a date, but that's just how it works out for me. Its even worse on testing shifts or when signing off blankets for launch. (3am 911 pages are NOT fun) That's why I'm kinda glad (in the back of my mind) that I got laid off the last job I had.
I tried flexing a lot of time and using vacation hours as well during my last job to go to grad school or to kendo practices and yes I have used them for a date, but i think that was what caused me to eventually get laid off first in my department because they started to turn to other people that were there at the desk almost around the clock to be there to receive incoming assignments. So I'm trying not to repeat the mistake again. Its experience and job security.

that sucks, but it's true. Over here at my job, they had to let someone go in our engineering department. This guy kept taking too much time off and I had to pick up his stuff cause he wasn't there. That really sucked cause I had my stuff to work on and plus his stuff. When they let him go, all his duties were given to me. So I pretty much do a two person job, but get paid for one.
