first oil change

I don't think you need a new drain plug gasket everytime. At least I don't. You should hold out on the synthetic till you reach 7-10k, so you can let the engine properly bore through it's stroke. Keep in mind that the inside surface will be microscopically rough. Going to synthetic right away doesn't make this happen.

That is the consensus around here even by some Subaru shops. However, I put Mobil1 after the first 3500 miles, and I have 54000 miles right now with no problems. I'd do it after the first 2 dino changes, but that's my opinion.

What kind of oil do you plan on using? Are you going to do it yourself?

I don't think the washer is a rip off but I've reused mine a few times then changed it, untill I got the oil drain valve. It makes changes a snap.
